Wedding accessories now: hoops, veils, gloves, pearls, boleros

Many brides now want a second look for the party, and the simplest way to get one is through accessories rather than a second dress. If you are wondering which wedding accessories are in fashion this season, here is our view.

In short

We look at five wedding accessories for this season, from hoop earrings to the bolero. They complete the look, but one rule holds: one bold accent, not everything at once.

Five accessories to watch this season

Hoop earrings

Fashion brands have kept their clothes minimal in recent seasons, while accessories have gone the other way: amulets set with gemstones, crosses, several bracelets worn at once. That taste for statement jewellery is now reaching wedding looks. Pearls remain a classic, and hoops set with crystals, or with crystals and pearls together, are the version we expect to see more often.

Personalised veils

Veils with embroidered text and personal details have become a popular way to add meaning to the look. More brides now give the veil a personal line: their initials, the date or the place of the wedding. The veil then records the day itself and can be kept for the next generation.

Gloves

Gloves have been a red-carpet favourite for several seasons, and they have now moved into wedding fashion. The version brides turn to is the opera glove, especially sheer tulle with ruffles, for a soft and modern kind of romance. Gloves are also one of the quickest ways to update a classic dress.

Pearl details

Pearls have moved from a bridal trend into mainstream fashion. Scattered across a veil or gathered in a cluster, pearl details read as a modern classic. For a quieter version, try the snowflake hair trend: instead of threading small flowers through the hair, scatter pearls through it.

The bolero

The least expected accessory on this list is the bolero. Short knitted boleros became a street-style favourite, and brides now use them to complete their looks. In our view, fresh takes on the bolero and the cropped jacket, with interesting cut-outs, will keep growing, not least because they come off in a moment and reveal the dress or a second outfit underneath.

How to wear them

A sensible rule of thumb holds for all five: choose one bold accent rather than wearing everything at once. If the veil carries embroidery, keep the earrings simple; if you choose opera gloves, let the neckline stay clean.
